Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has predicted that incoming Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s position will be under threat during the Christmas period next season.

Collymore said Chelsea have made a mistake by reportedly appointing Maresca as their new manager, adding that they should have ‘stuck with Mauricio Pochettino.’

Chelsea recently parted ways with Pochettino.

The Blues are close to officially announcing Maresca as their new manager, who will succeed Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

In his CaughtOffside column, Collymore said: “I would be absolutely astounded if, when we get to Christmas, there are not rumblings about Maresca’s position already being under threat because it is a young, fickle, rookie group.

“For me, it is an underwhelming appointment. The club should have stuck with Poch (Pochettino), and I get the feeling that come November/December, we will be having another conversation about Chelsea changing their manager again.”
