Inter Miami superstar, Lionel Messi, has again made history in Major League Soccer, MLS, by setting a new record for the most goal contributions and assists in a single match during his side’s dominant 6-2 win against the New York Red Bulls at Chase Stadium on Saturday night.

The former Barcelona forward produced a phenomenal display, with six goal contributions and five assists, cementing his place as a superstar in the league.

The Argentine has now scored and assisted in six consecutive league matches, a feat that has never been achieved before in MLS.

Speaking about Messi, Inter Miami head coach, Gerardo Martino could not resist praising his player’s stunning display, branding it as a historic moment in MLS history.

“All [goals] were fundamental to the game, but Leo did something historic tonight with five assists and one goal,” Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino said at his post-match interview.

“But I can’t forget Suarez’s three goals and Rojas’ two goals. The first, well both, but the first Rojas goal was amazing.

“But because of the technical aspect of Leo on the assist I will choose Luis Suárez’s scissor goal as my favorite.”
