Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has said Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer ever.

De La Fuente admitted he would have loved to have Messi in his squad.

Despite being 36 years old and playing in the MLS, De la Fuente believes the World Cup-winning captain would be the best player he could “sign” for Spain.

But according to him, Barcelona and Dutch icon, Johan Cruyff, is the greatest player of all time.

Speaking to Movistar Futbol, De la Fuente answered some quick-fire questions.

To ‘who is the best player in history?’, he replied simply: “Johan Cruyff.”

When asked who he would like to sign for the Spanish national team, he laughed and said: “Leo Messi. Have I been original?”
