The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has urged Shooting Stars and Remo Stars to ensure utmost restraint on their fans ahead of the South West derby clash.
The NPFL disclosed this in a letter addressed to both clubs stating the matchday 26 fixture in Ibadan as high risk.
The Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, said the move was necessary to curb any form of violence before, during and after the match.
Owumi urged Remo Stars to orientate their travelling fans on the need to conduct themselves in an orderly and sporting manner.
It stated that the Oluyole Warriors, as the host, have more responsibility to ensure adequate and effective security before, during and after the match, with an appeal, through the use of a public address system, to fans of both clubs to adopt friendly disposition towards each other.
To ensure strict compliance, the NPFL said its staff will be on hand to assist and monitor situations for a peaceful atmosphere.
“With an eye on the history of rivalry between your clubs, we have considered it the right step to call for utmost restraint on your fans,” the letter addressed to the Chairmen/General Managers of both clubs stated.
DAILY POST recalls that both supporters met in the past to improve their relationship.
The encounter will be held at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday, (today) with kick-off time fixed for 5.30 pm.
