Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, Michael Owen has predicted Arsenal to win a Premier League title ‘within the next few years’.
Owen also refused to rule out Arsenal’s title chances this term, insisting that ‘somebody’ will drop points when Liverpool host Manchester City on Sunday.
Arsenal are currently two points behind leaders Liverpool and one point behind second-placed Man City after beating Sheffield United 6-0 on Monday.
“That is impressive that run of results, some good teams in there, they beat Liverpool convincingly, beat Newcastle convincingly, most of the games they are winning by two, three, four goals,” Owen told Premier League Productions.
“I have said before they are a force, they are a force to be reckoned with. They are unfortunate at the moment that there is two incredible teams [Liverpool and Manchester City] in the Premier League.
“But I have got no doubts about it, in the next few years they are going to be winning a title, it is just a matter of when.
“We just saw their fixtures, if they can get past Brentford at the weekend and then sit back and watch Liverpool against Manchester City, somebody is going to drop points, so they are going to be gaining on someone this weekend if they concentrate on their business.
“Exciting times for them and of course the big one on the horizon at the Etihad [against Man City], if they can avoid defeat there then they are in serious business.”
When asked about Arsenal having an advantage in the title race this season because of their superior goal difference, Owen added: “It could be – have Liverpool or Manchester City got Sheffield United to play because they might close the gap in one game!
“It is significant, it really is, it is a close call this season, it is going to go right to the wire I’m pretty sure of it.
“It is the oldest saying in the book, if you’ve got the best goal difference it is almost like an extra point.”
