Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has named three Red Devils’ players who played well despite the 3-1 Premier defeat to Manchester City in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
Ferdinand believes the trio of Andre Onana, Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans stood out even though Man United’s overall display against City was not good enough.
According to him, Onana, Evans and Varane were Man United’s best players on the pitch against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Two goals from Phil Foden and a strike from Erling Haaland gave the host the victory against Erik ten Hag’s side as Marcus Rashford’s stunning goal was not enough.
After watching Man United’s performance at the Etihad Stadium, Ferdinand said (via HITC):
“Jonny Evans’ performance, Varane’s performance, Onana’s performance, those three, even though we still conceded three goals today, the two centre-backs and the goalkeeper, I thought for large parts, were our best players.”
The result leaves Man United in 6th position with 44 points after 27 games.
