Rivers United coach, Evans Ogenyi says it is important for the team to earn a place in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Pride of Rivers recorded a 3-2 win against Academica Petroleos de Lobito in Angola on Sunday.
Ogenyi said the victory against the Angolans was a hard-earned one but opined that the team must move to the next stage of the competition.
Rivers United are locked on the same point with Club Africain who are on nine points.
The former Nigeria Premier Football League champions need to beat Ghana’s Dreams FC to qualify for the next stage of the competition.
Rivers United will face Dreams FC in their final group game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Sunday.
“We deserve to qualify for the next round,” Ogenyi declared.
”The Angolan team is not small, we came here with a plan.
“In the first leg in Nigeria we beat them 3-0 and every other team in Nigeria has improved their game.
“We knew that at last the goal difference would surely count and will came up with a plan.”
