Arsenal legend, Martin Keown has insisted that the Gunners gave the ball away cheaply during their Champions League Round of 16 first leg 1-0 defeat to Porto on Wednesday night.

Keown also believes it was lack of experience that cost Mikel Arteta’s side the defeat to Porto.

Recall that a late goal from Galeno gave the home side a first leg advantage against the Premier League club.

“It was a sucker punch really,” Keown said on TNT Sports.

“Professional performance, defended well, could have created more opportunities but then you give the ball away cheaply and Galeno scores a wonderful goal.

“You can’t help think that maybe experience has cost Arsenal a little bit, it is the competition of late goals and it is a young team that’s learning in Europe and I hope it doesn’t come back to haunt them.”

He added: “Neither team were really creating that many opportunities, it got a bit loose at the end. I just think that it is inexperience.”

Arsenal will host Porto at Emirates Stadium in the second leg next month.
