Weightlifting duo Rafiatu Folashade Lawal and Adijat Adenike Olarinoye will Monday evening begin their hunt for gold and silver medals for Nigeria when they compete in the 59kg women’s category at the ongoing 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt.

A statement by Amaechi Agbo, the Media Officer of the Nigerian Weightlifting Federation, said both weightlifters won three Gold and three Silver medals, respectively, during the 2023 edition in Tunisia in May.

The Championship, which also serves as the Paris 2024 qualifier, began on Sunday with an opening ceremony.,

Recall that the Nigerian contingent which comprised four lifters and four officials arrived in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday for the 2024 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship.

The Championship will also serve as the qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Lawal and Adenike are expected to fight for the 2024 medals in the 59kg women’s category by 4pm Nigeria time.
