Edo Queens forward Emem Essien is confident that the reigning Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions will qualify from the group stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Benin-based club will slug it out with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), FC Masar (Egypt), and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC in Group B of the competition.
Essien believed that Edo Queens have the potential to progress, despite the pedigree of the opponents in their group.
“To me, the draw is okay because we believe we will qualify in that group,” Essien told Nigeria Football.
“Having the champions in our group means we need to work harder.
“If we didn’t have them, the group might feel easier, but I truly believe we can qualify.”
The competition is expected to kick-start in November.
