Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso has provided an update on striker Victor Boniface’s condition after the player’s ordeal in Libya.

Recall that Boniface was among the Super Eagles players who were handed inhumane treatment by the Libyan authorities ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifiers matchday four fixture with Libya a few days ago.

The 23-year-old striker spoke about the incident on X, narrating how they were treated harshly by the Libyan authorities before they were forced to return to Nigeria.

However, speaking ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Alonso admitted that what Boniface went through was unpleasant, adding that the player has been involved in training ahead of this weekend’s clash.

“We have spoken,” Alonso said in quotes relayed by Frankfurter Allgemeine.

“What happened is not pleasant. But he [Boniface] has had enough time to train.”
