Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has explained his decision to drop Matthijs De Ligt and Lisandro Martinez from his starting XI.

Ten Hag has opted to start the duo of Harry Maguire and Johnny Evans against Aston Villa in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

The Dutchman’s job is believed to be on the line ahead of the game at Aston Villa. And he has decided to switch up his team, with £100m worth of centre-backs left out today.

When asked about leaving De Ligt and Martinez on the bench, Ten Hag said: “Rotation. We have so many games to cover so we have to bring them all in.

“You look at the opponent and then you make a choice.

“There is always pressure.”
