Mikel Arteta has said surpassing Arsene Wenger to become Arsenal’s greatest-ever manager is his “only objective”.

The Spaniard has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract with the Gunners this week.

It is reward for Arteta turning Arsenal into title challengers for the past two seasons.

When asked if he wants to emulate his former boss, Arteta said: “Hopefully yes. My aim is to be my best version of myself.

“The best coach ever for Arsenal. That’s the only objective.”

Arteta has won one FA Cup and two Community Shields during his time at the Emirates
