The Ballon d’Or 2024 nominees’ shortlist was published on Wednesday by the organisers.
And a quick look into the 30 names released by France Football shows that some notable players have been snubbed.
For the first time since 2023, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo made the list of nominees.
Messi won the prize for a record-extending eighth time last year, while Ronaldo has taken it home five times.
Other players who missed out include Kevin De Bruyne, who won the Premier League title for a fourth consecutive year with Manchester City, Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Rodrygo Goes (Real Madrid), Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona), Julian Alvarez (Manchester City/Atletico Madrid) and Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool).
