Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said the news of Sol Bamba’s death is “quite tough.”
Bamba died on Saturday as he was preparing for Adanaspor game, with the Turkish club confirming the sad news.
The Ivorian had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma back in December 2020 but was believed to be in the clear.
Van Dijk, speaking after their 3-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday, said: “When I read the news it was quite tough. I played against him and had conversations with him. I just want to say ‘rest in peace.’
“He’s far too young. All the strength goes to his family.
“Hopefully the Premier League will do something after the international break. He is one of the good guys and his family deserve that.”
