The Premier League have explained why Arsenal midfielder, Declan Rice, was sent off during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton.
The Gunners’ perfect start to the campaign ended in front of their fans.
Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the first half, finishing off a fine pass from Bukayo Saka.
But the game turned on its head after Rice received his second booking in the second half.
Having received a yellow card in the first half for clattering into Joel Veltman, Rice was dismissed just four minutes after the restart when he nudged the ball away from the same player as he was preparing to take a free kick.
Despite making only minimal contact with the ball, Rice was punished, despite taking a kick to the shin, for “delaying the restart, ” according to the official Premier League match centre.
