Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as manager Arne Slot’s first summer signing at Anfield.

According to The Athletic, Mamardashvili will put pen to paper on a move to the Reds, with the Premier League giants spending a rumoured £34m on his services.

Liverpool identified the Euro 2024 star as a potential addition earlier in the summer and worked hard to fend off interest from Newcastle United, who were also interested in the keeper.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Inter Milan had also been credited with interest in Mamardashvili.

Meanwhile, in another development,

Manchester City announced the signing of Naomi Layzell from Bristol City.

The 20-year-old defender joins City’s women’s team after committing to a four-year deal.

The deal will keep her at the club until the summer of 2028.

Layzell will wear the number 3 shirt for the Cityzens.

“It’s quite surreal, to be honest. You always want to play for the top teams as a young player and I think joining City is an exciting opportunity for me,” Layzell told Man City’s website.
