Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has urged Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to drop Mason Mount from his lineup to make room for Joshua Zirkzee in their next game against Brighton.
Mount started in Man United’s Community Shield defeat against Manchester City last week.
The England star also started in the Red Devils’ Premier League 1-0 win over Fulham on Friday.
Mount was replaced by Zirkzee and the Dutch forward scored the winner after 87 minutes to give Ten Hag’s side all three points against Fulham.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Mikel insisted that Mount should make way for Zirkzee in their next game.
“He scored the goal and he played okay coming on,” he said.
“For me, maybe yes [he starts against Brighton]. I keep saying Mason Mount needs to have a really good season and he didn’t do it again today. So you think of starting Joshua and bringing Bruno [Fernandes] a bit deeper. You want to see United playing with a striker.”
