Former England striker, Michael Owen, has claimed Jadon Sancho wanted the Premier League club to sack manager Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag banished Sancho from the first team last season following a public fallout.

The 24-year-old hit back at the Dutchman for questioning his training performances.

Sancho spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Borussia Dortmund but has since been welcomed back into the United squad, after making peace with Ten Hag.

Owen told Prime Casino: “Jadon Sancho took a really risky move in many ways but almost an unavoidable one in going back to where he was to try to reignite that spark, and he’s done particularly well.

“I’m sure he probably would have preferred there to have been a change of manager at Old Trafford so it was a clean slate and he could come back and hopefully start again.

“I don’t know what his future holds, but he’s certainly gone away and proven that he can still cut it at the top level.”
