Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick has backed Chelsea forward Cole Palmer to have a great career.

Carrick said the former Manchester City star is down to earth after his impressive display in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg 6-1 win against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the game, Carrick singled out Palmer for praise, telling Radio 5 Live (Mirror):

“He is a real talent. Nice lad as well. Down to earth, and you can see that when you come up against him, he will go on to have a great career. It is not nice when you are on the end of it but we can appreciate and respect how good he is.”
