Former Newcastle United boss, Graeme Souness has expressed shock over the number of forward passes completed by England midfielder, Declan Rice, in the 2-1 Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain
DAILY POST reported that Rice, who plays for Arsenal in the Premier League, was named in Gareth Southgate’s XI for the final game in Berlin.
His inclusion was not a surprise with the 25-year-old having played every minute of all England’s games, including two extra times.
Nico Williams opened the scoring two minutes into the second period but England hit back through Cole Palmer in the 73rd minute.
However, Mikel Oyarzabal scored an 86th-minute winner for La Roja to condemn the Three Lions to defeat.
Speaking on the Up Front podcast (as per TBR), Souness, a former Scotland midfielder, said, “It was driving me mad watching their midfield play last night, as it has the whole tournament.
“I’ve been doing some research, Whoscored.com, a very informative website, question for you two muppets, how many forward, completed passes did Declan Rice do in 90 minutes? One.
“One completed forward pass in 90 minutes for a midfield player. That’s impossible.”
