Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey, has blamed midfielders and attackers for the team’s lack of goals at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The Super Eagles are the joint best defensive team at the AFCON in Ivory Coast with only one goal conceded.
However, they lack efficiency in attack, which cost them top spot in Group A.
Jose Peseiro’s men has only scored three goals in the competition so far.
DAILY POST reports that Nigeria attackers at the AFCON includes the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu and Term Moffi, while the midfielders includes the likes of Alex Iwobi and Joe Aribo.
Asked why the Super Eagles are not scoring goals and converting their chances at the AFCON, Bassey told reporters following Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau: “Go and ask the midfielders and attackers because, me, I am defending. I try my own.”
“Of course we are working on it. You seem to have all the answers, I think we’ve done well defensively.”
