Argentina star Rodrigo De Paul has said that he is scared of the day Lionel Messi would announce his retirement from international football.
The midfielder said this in an interview with American television channel Telemundo.
Messi, a former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, has scored the most goals for Argentina history (108) made the most assists (57) and also holds the record as the most capped player (182) among many others.
His legacy with the national team has inspired a whole generation of Argentina players including De Paul.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder told All About Argentina: “I’m scared of the day Messi is no longer with the national team. I always talk about it with him.
“Everything is easier with him. All our comforts are thanks to him. He is the foundation of all this.
“He always tells me: ‘You can pick up the phone the day the national team needs anything and I will be there. I will always be a part of you.'”
