Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Jesus Owono said teamwork was key to the team’s impressive performance against Nigeria.
The Nzalang Nacional held the Super Eagles to a 1-1 draw in their Group B fixture at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday afternoon.
Ivan Salvador gave Equatorial Guinea the lead in the 36th minute.
Nigeria, however, equalised immediately through Victor Osimhen.
Owono, who was named Man of the Match after the game, was full of praise for his teammates.
“The unity in our team made the difference for us against Nigeria,” he told a press conference after the game.
“Our strength was the teamwork we showed on the pitch. We were not scared and took the game to them.”
Juan Micha’s side will now face Guinea-Bissau in their next game on Thursday.
