The Nigeria National League, NNL, has banished Gateway United to Benin City following a security breach in their home game against Ikorodu City at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.
Gateway was found guilty after their supporters assaulted match officials during the encounter.
The Abeokuta club were also fined N1 million with N100,000 for the medical treatment of the battered referees.
The NNL Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Abdulrahman said the club must produce and prosecute the fans who attacked the referee or face further sanctions.
Gateway United will host Crown FC and Osun United in their remaining fixtures in the regular season.
