Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has claimed they did not speak about Manchester City’s 4-2 win at Crystal Palace before they took on Brighton.
Havertz scored one and laid on an assist for Leandro Trossard as the Gunners won 3-0 at the Amex.
Mikel Arteta’s men kicked off in third place and knew only a win would take them above their title rivals.
On using City’s result as motivation, Havertz told Sky Sports: “To be honest, we didn’t speak about it. We tried to focus on ourselves and win the game, that is more important than looking at the other games right now.
“We must win our matches and see where that brings us. We are ready for the challenge and we are up for it. Every week we play at the limit and maybe we can play better.”
