As the Premier League title race intensifies with just ten games remaining, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has weighed in on the frontrunners, naming Manchester City as the favorites to clinch the championship ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool.
Despite Arsenal holding the top spot on goal difference, their pursuit of a first league title since 2004 faces stiff competition from Liverpool, who are level on points with the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Manchester City, aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive league title and eyeing back-to-back trebles, trailing closely behind.
In a column penned for The Athletic, Shearer explained his rationale for backing Manchester City, despite them currently sitting third in the table, one point adrift of their rivals.
According to him, City’s familiarity with the pressure of chasing titles gives them an edge.
“This is why my instinct is to make Manchester City favourites to win it now, even though they’re third in the table, a point behind the other two,” Shearer said.
“They are more familiar with this position. No side has ever won four consecutive Premier League titles but the track record they have is precious.”
