Liverpool legend, Mark Lawrenson has suggested that Manchester United won’t miss Andre Onana when the goalkeeper leaves for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the coming days.
Lawrenson believes that Man United’s backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir wouldn’t be any worse than the Cameroonian international.
“Altay Bayindir can’t be any worse than Andre Onana!” Lawrenson told Paddy Power.
“The number of mistakes that Onana has made, Manchester United won’t be any worse off if he heads to the AFCON.
“Sometimes you have to throw someone in – this is his chance. Hopefully, he will get some protection, which Onana has never had, but he has been poor anyway.”
Onana is expected to join the Cameroon team after Man United’s Premier League tie with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
