The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has removed referee Imamu Maliki Umar from officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

The decision to remove Umar was made in the aftermath of the controversial call he made during the Matchday 17 clash between Shooting Stars and Bayelsa United FC, resulting in a 1-0 victory for the host.

The NFF referees department, acting upon the gravity of the situation and the public outcry surrounding Umar’s officiating, has directed him to step down with immediate effect from refereeing NPFL matches.

The Nigeria Referees Association, NRA, will deliberate on further actions regarding Umar’s future involvement in the league.
