Cross River State will be conducting local government council and ward elections this weekend, November 2, 2024.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Gryogon Augustine Grimah, has assured a peaceful conduct of both elections.

Addressing journalists shortly after the state security meeting presided over by the governor, Senator Prince Edet Otu, Grimah assured citizens that the environment would be conducive for all to exercise their franchise.

Grimah, who was posted out to Kaduna State and replaced by another CP Opara but reinstated after a week, stated that all relevant security agencies in the state have fully deployed their resources to guarantee the safety of citizens and maintain law and order during the elections.

He urged the electorate to embrace the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state and come out to vote on election day.

Similarly, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, said there have been several engagements with stakeholders to ensure the elections run peacefully.

Speaking further, she revealed the Command’s collaboration with sister agencies and other security operatives to ensure that issues of vote buying and violence are curtailed.

The Police PRO also urged the public to report any cases of illegalities by officers, advising them to use the various channels provided by the Force.

Meanwhile, the state ruling party, APC, kicked off its campaigns on Monday in the central district of Ikom LGA.
