Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-Va.) said he met Vice President Kamala Harris at a campaign event last Wednesday and told her, “We got your six, and kick his ass!”

Riggleman was among a large group of prominent conservatives who threw their weight behind the Democratic nominee at an event in Pennsylvania as Harris seeks to appeal to Republican and independent voters put off by Donald Trump’s extreme brand of politics.

Speaking to MSNBC over the weekend, Riggleman was asked for details about his conversation with the vice president.

The former congressman said he was in line to speak to Harris and was wondering, “What can I say that just gets our point across?”

He said he greeted the vice president and that she recognized him as the Virginia chair of Republicans for Harris.

“I said, ‘Yes, and I see everybody wants to talk to you. So can I just be very short here. I want to tell you what I’m thinking.’ She goes, ‘Absolutely,’” he said.

He then recalled saying to Harris, “So listen, I was former Air Force. I just want to tell you: We got your six, and kick his ass.”

“I mean, that was pretty much what we talked about, so... and she started laughing,” he added.

“Got your six” is a military phrase that means “I’ve got your back.”

Riggleman served in the Air Force for 15 years before representing Virginia in Congress from 2019 to 2021. He said in 2022 that he no longer considers himself a Republican because “the party has moved away from conservative principles to this cult of personality.”

More than 100 former Republican officials recently endorsed Harris in a letter to the public calling Trump “unfit to serve.”
