Does it work for your skin health?

Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics, the combination of pineapple, papaya, orange, and lemon is touted for its potential benefits for glowing skin.

Let’s break down the skincare benefits of each ingredient:

1. Pineapple: Pineapple is rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps neutralise free radicals and promote collagen production. According to Dr Kapoor, collagen is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness, contributing to a youthful appearance. “Pineapple also contains enzymes like bromelain, which can help exfoliate dead skin cells, brighten the complexion, and promote cell turnover,” said Dr Kapoor.

2. Papaya: Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which has exfoliating properties that can help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Papaya is also rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as antioxidants, which help protect the skin from environmental damage and promote skin repair and rejuvenation. Additionally, papaya contains hydrating properties that can help keep the skin moisturised and supple.

3. Orange: Like pineapple, oranges are rich in vitamin C, which is crucial for collagen synthesis and skin repair. “Vitamin C also has brightening properties that can help even out the skin tone and fade dark spots or hyperpigmentation. Oranges also contain antioxidants that protect the skin from free radical damage and premature ageing,” said Dr Kapoor.

4. Lemon: Lemon is another excellent source of vitamin C and antioxidants, making it beneficial for promoting collagen production and protecting the skin from oxidative stress. Dr Kapoor said that lemon juice also has astringent properties that can help tighten pores and reduce excess oil production, making it suitable for oily or acne-prone skin. “Additionally, lemon juice contains natural bleaching agents that can help lighten dark spots or acne scars over time,” said Dr Kapoor.

What to keep in mind?

When combined, these fruits provide a potent blend of vitamins, antioxidants, and enzymes that can nourish the skin, improve texture and tone, and promote a radiant, glowing complexion. “However, it’s always best to consult with a dermatologist and a nutritionist before adding any new ingredient in your diet if you have specific skin concerns or conditions,” said Dr Kapoor.
