Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, could break one of Lionel Messi’s records when the Cityzens host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday at the Etihad.
De Bruyne recently gave four assists to teammate Erling Haaland as Manchester City thrashed Luton Town 6-2 in the FA Cup fifth round in midweek.
That took the Belgian’s tally to 202 assists while playing for a top-five league club (Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1) since the 2013-2014 season.
Most of those assists (165) have come with Man City, whom he joined in the summer of 2015.
De Bruyne is now just one short of Messi’s tally of assists in Europe’s top-five leagues in the same period.
Messi (203) amassed most of those assists while at Barcelona.
However, if De Bruyne draws level with Messi on Sunday, the former Chelsea star will accomplish the feat in 442 games, 16 matches fewer than the Argentina captain.
