Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Sheriff Inuwa Ahlan has said only the Federal Government can decide the fate of Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro.
Peseiro’s contract will end at the end of the month.
There are calls for his contract not to be renewed despite the Super Eagles impressive performance at the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles finished in second position in the competition, going down to a 2-1 defeat against the host nation in the final.
Inuwa said the NFF board will meet next week to review the country’s outing at the AFCON and make recommendations to the supervising Sports Ministry headed by John Enoh.
“Peseiro is a national project, not only NFF project. Our duty is to recommend and forward to the Sports Ministry and whatever decision taken, our duty is to implement,” Inuwa told Prompt News.
“So far the Federation has good working relationship with the minister and the minister is in charge of sports in the country. His decision and advise must be respected. He is our father, we must consult him in any of our policies for proper guidance.”
