Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has warned the club against hiring Jose Mourinho as their next manager.

Mourinho is currently out of job, after he was sacked by Roma last month.

Shearer is a fan of the Portuguese tactician, but says the Magpies should stick by Eddie Howe.

Mourinho, was has previously coached Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham, is being linked with a return to England.

Pressure is growing on Howe, following four consecutive defeats over Christmas against Chelsea, Luton, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.

However, the Magpies’ form has improved in recent weeks, with Howe’s side taking three wins from their last four.

Shearer has said that Howe has done enough for the Newcastle board to persevere with him.

“He has had an amazing career, Jose,” Shearer told The Rest Is Football Podcast.

“Where he goes next I’m not sure. But, no, I am very happy with Eddie Howe at Newcastle and the job he has done and the role he is doing.”
