Super Eagles Defender, Kenneth Omeruo has hit out at coach Jose Peseiro’s tactics after Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, on Sunday.
The former Chelsea star said the Super Eagles were too defensive against Ivory Coast.
Omeruo, who spoke to reporters after the game, also admitted that he felt bad that Nigeria did not win the AFCON trophy.
Speaking about the encounter, Peseiro said: “I think we were defending from the start of the game, and it is a long time to play defensive. One mistake and there is a goal.
“Already when you are defending from the start the team is already tired. For me, I feel bad that we did not get the trophy.”
Recall that two goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller gave Ivory Coast a 2-1 victory over the Super Eagles.
Captain William Troost-Ekong did score a goal for Peseiro’s side during the encounter.
