South Africa goalkeeper, Rowen Williams, says he is not concerned with Bafana Bafana’s poor record against Nigeria.
The former champions have lost all their previous Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) games against the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles defeated South Africa 2-0 in a semi-final fixture at the AFCON 2000 finals.
Nigeria thrashed the Bafana Bafana 4-0 in a group game at the AFCON 2004 finals hosted by Tunisia.
The Super Eagles also maintained their superiority over the South Africans, knocking them out 2-1 at the quarter-final stage five years ago in Egypt.
Both teams will clash again in a last four encounter at the ongoing AFCON 2023 finals on Wednesday.
Williams claimed that statistics are not important going into the game.
“Stats don’t play the game. You know many statistics that were against us in this tournament and we proved that stats don’t play the game,” the Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper told a press conference.
“So, what has happened in the past, we can’t change that, but what we can change is tomorrow’s result, tomorrow’s performance. So we don’t look at that because that can’t change now.
“We control what we can control and that is tomorrow’s performance and tomorrow’s result.”
