Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has reacted to the club’s decision to appoint Ruud Van Nistelrooy as their interim manager.

Van Nistelrooy has been given the role after United sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday.

Schmeichel, speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, admitted he wasn’t sure about his former team-mate’s abilities as a coach.

He said: “I don’t know how good a manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is.

“But he was a very good player.

“And if he is able to replicate some of his playing form as a manager, he has a good chance of staying on.

“I don’t think Ten Hag got enough support at United.”
