Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has explained that punishments handed out to Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho following indiscretions were different because “Jadon chose to go public.”

Rashford will return to the United squad for their Premier League fixture against Wolves on Thursday, after he held talks with Ten Hag on Monday, following his ill-advised trip to Belfast last week.

Sancho, meanwhile, has returned to his former club Borussia Dortmund on loan, after publicly questioning Ten Hag’s reasons for dropping him from the squad for a game at Arsenal in September.

For over four months, Sancho was forced to train alone, while Rashford trained as normal with his teammates on Monday.

Ten Hag has now noted that the different approach was owing to Sancho’s now-deleted post on X, formerly Twitter.

“We can sort out everything internally. Jadon chose to go public,” Ten Hag said.
