Former Napoli striker, Emanuele Calaio, has claimed that Antonio Conte picked Romelu Lukaku over Victor Osimhen due to the Belgian’s leadership qualities.

Conte was appointed manager of the former Serie A champions this summer.

One of the first decisions he took was to freeze Osimhen out of his first-team.

Osimhen eventually joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan, despite interest from Chelsea and Saudi Arabia.

“Osimhen is stronger than Lukaku, but Conte evidently chose the Belgian because he is a locker room man, a leader,” Calaio said, per Napoli Magazine.

“Have you seen what he did with Monza? It was clear from the TV, he always encouraged his teammates, he guided them.”
