Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has said that sending off Bruno Fernandes in their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday was a poor decision by referee Chris Kavanagh.
DAILY POST reports that The Red Devils were beaten 3-0 by Sours at Old Trafford.
Brennan Johnson hit the target for Tottenham within the first few minutes and Spurs added two more goals in the second half with Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke scoring the 42nd and 77th minutes respectively.
Manchester United captain, Fernandes was shown a straight red card towards the end of the first half.
The Portuguese made an attempt to win the ball from James Maddison, slipped and raised his boot against the Englishman’s shin.
Referee Chris Kavanagh decided to show him a straight red card.
Discussing the red card, Ferdinand admitted that Kavanagh should not have sent the Portuguese off.
“The Bruno red card, I think, is piss poor as well. I think it’s a bad red card. In no day and age should that ever be a red card.
“A straight red, no way, I can’t have it. But, do not let that distract from the fact that we were terrible.”
