Former Liverpool midfielder, Jamie Redknapp, has hailed Cole Palmer for getting into people’s heads with ‘mind games’ after Bournemouth missed a penalty against Chelsea in their Premier League encounter on Saturday night.
Bournemouth were the better team at the Vitality Stadium, but lacked a clinical edge as they missed a penalty during the match.
Chelsea eventually snatched a late 1-0 win, thanks to Christopher Nkunku.
During the encounter, Palmer was seen among the Bournemouth players discussing who should take the spot-kick.
Evanilson took the penalty and saw his spot-kick saved by goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.
And Redknapp was impressed with Palmer’s discussion with Bournemouth players before the penalty, insisting that what the England international did was part of the psychology of football.
“Some managers I have worked with – Gerard Houllier was one – felt if you got fouled, he never wanted you to take the penalty. You’re just not in the right frame of mind,” Redknapp said of the penalty incident as quoted by Metro UK.
“The Bournemouth players were having a chat about it… Palmer is trying to get into people’s heads, ‘are you going to take it?’
“Having a little discussion about it, trying to get into his head, all part of the psychology of football.
“Be interesting to see how good his [Evanilson’s] English is. He hasn’t been here that long, he probably doesn’t understand Cole Palmer! He got the gist of it I’m sure!”
