Angola coach, Pedro Gonçalves has disclosed a longstanding friendship with his Nigeria counterpart, Jose Peseiro, ahead of the clash between the two countries at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Both teams will clash in the quarterfinals of the competition on Friday.

Angola had defeated Namibia 3-0 in the round of 16, while Nigeria won 2-0 against Cameroon.

However, instead of engaging in the typical pre-match hostilities, Gonçalves revealed to Portugal’s outlet, Record, that he and Peseiro have been exchanging messages of mutual encouragement throughout the tournament.

“We have been exchanging messages of mutual encouragement,” Gonçalves said.

Both Gonçalves and Peseiro are both Portuguese by birth.
