A topflight match in Belgium between Anderlecht and Genk will be replayed in full after a VAR error led to a misapplication of the laws of the game.
This follows a ruling of a football disciplinary body.
The incident happened in the 23rd minute of the match when Genk forward Yira Sor scored from the rebound of Bryan Heynan’s missed penalty.
Replays have now shown that Sor was inside the area as Heynan took the spot-kick.
This led to VAR recommending to referee Nathan Verboomen that the goal should be cancelled.
However, the replay also showed that two Anderlecht players had also encroached into the penalty area.
According to the laws of the game, this should have resulted in Genk’s penalty being retaken.
Anderlecht went on to win the match 2-1 thanks to a 91st-minute winner from Anders Dreyer on December 23, 2023.
