Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has revealed he asked senior officials at the Premier League, to get to work in the transfer market before he signed a new contract.

The 29-year-old put pen to paper on fresh terms with the Red Devils last week.

This came after speculations with the Portugal playmaker with a move away from Old Trafford.

While negotiations were going on, Fernandes made it clear to United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co that he expects the club to strengthen in order to compete with the very best teams.

Speaking to Manutd.com, Fernandes said: “The club knew that I wanted to compete with the best teams.

“They knew that we needed to improve the team. And I think that we’re doing that.”
