Former Liverpool midfielder, Danny Murphy, has claimed his former team will not challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Reds have entered a new era under Arne Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp this summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy expressed his concern over the club’s lack of transfers.

Liverpool are the only Premier League side yet to make any new signings so far this summer.

Murphy said: “Well the window’s not closed. And the reality is Liverpool’s transfer business over the last five-six years has been excellent. I expect them to be in the top four, but I don’t think they’ll overcome City.

“They can’t win it with this squad can they? I don’t think so. They’ll be better, of course they would. Significant new signings – yeah, I think a centre-half and a holding midfielder.”
