The Premier League has confirmed there will be a significant change to the Video Assistant Referee, VAR, ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Since its introduction in the 2019-20 campaign, VAR has been involved in a couple of controversial incidents.
Ahead of the new season which begins this week, the Premier League has announced fresh steps as they attempt to address those issues.
On Tuesday, the Premier League launched a new account on X, which will provide “near-live” explanations of refereeing decisions.
“In the absence of live VAR audio being broadcast, as it is not permitted in football, the Premier League Match Centre will be able to relay on social media near-live information from the VAR Hub during a game,” the statement read in part.
