Former Arsenal defender, William Gallas, has kicked against the Gunners’ move to sign 28-year-old midfielder, Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

According to Gallas, Mikel Arteta’s side currently have Declan Rice and there is no need to bring Merino to Emirates.

Merino has been identified as Arsenal’s No.1 target this summer.

Reports last week suggested an agreement is imminent.

But Gallas feels the Premier League North London club need a new striker not Merina.

“Arsenal don’t need to sign Mikel Merino when they have Declan Rice who can play in that role,” the Frenchman told Genting Casino.

“I don’t think Arsenal need another midfielder. They need a striker and maybe a winger.”
