Arsenal is close to agreeing on a deal in principle with Bologna for Riccardo Calafiori.

Bologna have been holding out for £42m for the Italy international.

Sky Italy reports that discussions continue over a payment structure and clauses.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem between the Gunners and the defender.

Calafiori’s former club, Basel, could make up to 50 per cent of any profit Bologna gets from the deal.

The Serie A club bought Calafiori last summer for £3.3m.
