England legend, Alan Shearer, has recommended that his country picks Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe as the replacement for Gareth Southgate.

According to Shearer, the Newcastle boss is the perfect replacement for Southgate as England manager.

This is following England’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

Southgate is widely expected to leave the managerial position of his country.

Shearer told The Rest is Football podcast that Howe would be a fitting replacement for Southgate.

“There’s no doubt he’ll be in the bet [to become next England manager if Southgate leaves] because he’s done a great job at Newcastle. He plays that type of football [we all want],” Shearer said

“He would, without doubt, be an outstanding candidate [for the job]. But we wouldn’t want to lose him at Newcastle.”
